What is SIGAINT?

SIGAINT is an email service that was launched in 2014 with a focus on privacy and encryption. Unlike traditional email providers, SIGAINT did not require any personal information to open an account - users only needed to provide a username and password.

One of the key features that set SIGAINT apart was its use of cryptography and the Tor network to provide anonymous communications. All data was encrypted between the user's device and SIGAINT's servers. In addition, the service routed connections through the Tor network to hide users' IP addresses and locations.

SIGAINT gained popularity among journalists, activists, and security-conscious users who valued its strong privacy protections. However, in 2017 the SIGAINT website and infrastructure was compromised by unknown actors. User account details were exposed and the service was indefinitely shut down.

During its peak, SIGAINT filled an important niche for an anonymous, surveillance-resistant email provider. Several alternative services have been developed since SIGAINT shut down that aim to restore high-privacy encrypted email capabilities.
