A popular endless running video game series developed by Imangi Studios, featuring treacherous temple environments and addictive gameplay.
Temple Run is an endless running video game franchise created by husband and wife team Keith Shepherd and Natalia Luckyanova, and developed by their company Imangi Studios. The first Temple Run game was initially released for iOS in August 2011 and quickly became popular due to its simple, addictive gameplay.
In Temple Run, the player controls an explorer who has stolen an idol from a temple and is being chased by evil demon monkeys. The player must swipe left, right, up and down to navigate the explorer along winding cliffside pathways, wooden bridges, mine tracks and river rapids while avoiding obstacles and collecting coins. The game ends when the explorer crashes into an obstacle or is caught by the demon monkeys.
With its simple one-touch controls and procedurally generated environments, Temple Run captured the addictive fun of an endless runner in a vivid Indiana Jones-style setting. The original game was downloaded over 170 million times across iOS and Android. Several sequels have expanded the Temple Run universe with new environments, power-ups and gameplay modes. Major titles in the franchise include Temple Run 2, Temple Run: Oz, Temple Run: Brave and Temple Run: Back on Track.
The Temple Run games have become some of the most popular and recognizable mobile games due to their straightforward gameplay combined with exciting visuals and environments that pull players in. The series has paved the way for many other endless running franchises and games over the past decade.
