Explore an open world recreation of the US, complete races & challenges, and organize crew members for competitive multiplayer in The Crew video game.
The Crew is an open world racing video game developed by Ivory Tower and Ubisoft Reflections and published by Ubisoft. It was released in December 2014 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.
In The Crew, players take control of a racer who has infiltrated a criminal organization named The 5-10 to take revenge on them after they kill the player's brother. The game takes place in a persistent open world environment for free-roaming across a scaled down recreation of the United States. The map includes recreations of cities like New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Detroit, Chicago, Seattle, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Dallas, New Orleans, and others.
Players can customize their vehicles with performance and visual upgrades and organize crew members to compete with other crews in the game. There arestreet race events, offroad races, circuit races, and other challenge events for players to compete in. The game features a skill tree and levelling system that lets players unlock new vehicles and events as they gain experience.
The Crew focuses heavily on online play and cooperation with other players. Players can meet up and socialize in tuner garages and social spaces. Group challenges and faction missions encourage cooperation between players as they take on AI opponents. The game can be played solo, but is designed as a persistent online world populated by human controlled racers.
The Crew received mixed but generally positive reviews upon release. Critics praised its massive open world recreation of the United States and innovative multiplayer integration, but felt the core driving and racing lacked polish and depth compared to other racing games. Despite some flaws, many reviewers felt The Crew offered an impressive package and experience not found in other racers.
