Open source turn-based strategy game inspired by Civilization series with pixel art graphics and gameplay similar to Civilization V, featuring city building, tech research, army management, diplomacy and expansion through human history eras.
Unciv is an open source turn-based strategy game for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS that is inspired by the popular Civilization series. It features pixel art graphics, authentic gameplay mechanics adapted from Civilization V, and covers key eras of human history from the ancient to the modern era.
As the leader of a civilization, the player must found new cities, assign population to work resource tiles like farms and mines, research new technologies along several different branches on the tech tree, build military units to defend their lands or conquer opponents, engage in trade and diplomacy with other leaders, and ultimately guide their civilization from humble beginnings all the way to achieving one of several victory conditions like conquering other civilizations or being the first to establish a colony on Mars.
Gameplay is intricate but approachable for new players, with advisors that provide guidance and a civilization overview screen that summarizes important stats. Experienced players can access more detailed breakdowns and choose game settings like map size, number of opponents, win conditions and gameplay modes like endless or scenarios. Unciv is completely free and open source software licensed under GPL v3.
