What is Wreckfest?

Wreckfest is an over-the-top, demolition derby-style racing game developed and published by the Finnish company Bugbear Entertainment. Originally called Next Car Game, it was first released in early access in 2013 where it developed a cult following, before getting a full release in 2018 under the Wreckfest name.

In Wreckfest, players drive old, beaten up vehicles ranging from conventional cars to school buses around dirt oval tracks, figure-8 circuits, and destruction arenas. The gameplay puts an emphasis on crashing into opponents using PIT maneuvers, rubbing against their cars, and smashing them into walls and other obstacles around each track. Vehicles feature deeply simulated damage modeling where parts rip off, glass shatters, and frames bend from the impacts of crashes.

The game features a career mode, various multiplayer options including competitive races and derby events, and deep customization where players can upgrade their cars with new parts to increase strength, speed, and acceleration. There are over 60 vehicles to choose from in categories like cars, trucks, buses and even lawnmowers. The upgrade system and multiple vehicle types create plenty of gameplay variety where players tune their cars for specific events.

With its over-the-top action, focus on destruction, and realistically simulated crashes, Wreckfest appeals to players looking for an intense, demolition derby-inspired racing experience.
