Discontinued podcast hosting and distribution platform providing tools for podcast editing, analytics, and monetization, before being discontinued in 2020.
ACast was a podcast hosting and distribution platform launched in 2014 that allowed users to easily create, host, publish, and monetize their podcasts. It provided an all-in-one solution for podcasters with tools for recording, editing, analytics, distribution to major platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and monetization through advertising and subscriptions.
Key features of ACast included unlimited storage and bandwidth, customizable players and websites, detailed analytics dashboards, an ad platform to dynamically insert ads into episodes, options to publish transcript and bonus content for subscribers, and more. They positioned themselves as an end-to-end podcasting solution designed to help independent podcasters compete with larger networks.
ACast was based in Stockholm, Sweden and expanded operations across Europe and North America, raising over $30 million USD in funding. Major podcast publishers like the Financial Times, Guardian, Economist, Gimlet Media and more used ACast to distribute their content. However, despite growing to host over 35,000 shows, ACast shut down in 2020 citing inability to successfully expand their business amidst growing competition in the podcast market.
