The Borderlands series is a franchise of critically acclaimed first-person shooter video games developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games. Set in the distant future, the games take place on the abandoned fictional planet of Pandora, where players battle different enemies while completing quests and collecting upgrades, new weapons, and other loot.

The first Borderlands game was released in 2009 and introduced the unique visual style of the series, often described as reminiscent of comic books. Gameplay is centered around completing missions assigned by various characters while defeating enemies, bosses, and collecting randomly generated guns, gear, weapon attachments, and other items that provide buffs and power-ups for the player's character.
