Cassettetape: Open-Source Web Audio Editor

An open-source web audio editor and recorder for recording, editing, and sharing audio content with an intuitive drag-and-drop interface.

What is Cassettetape?

Cassettetape is an open-source web application that allows users to easily record, edit, and share audio content from their browser. Developed using JavaScript and HTML5 technologies, it can be self-hosted on one's own server or hosting provider.

The intuitive drag-and-drop interface makes it simple to import audio files, record narration from a microphone, trim clips, stitch pieces together, and apply effects. The editing timeline allows arranging multiple tracks of audio, while the array of effects like normalization, compression, pitch adjustment etc. facilitate polishing the final output.

Once the editing is complete, the final mix can be directly exported as an MP3 file. Users can also easily share their recordings through links, embed on websites, or upload to platforms like YouTube. The application can also be configured to automatically back up recordings to cloud storage services.

As an open-source platform, Cassettetape allows extending functionality or customizing look and feel via its codebase on GitHub. Due to its lightweight nature, it can run smoothly even on low-powered servers like Raspberry Pi. The self-hosted model also gives users full control over their audio data compared to closed cloud platforms.
