What is Classic Google Sites?

Classic Google Sites is a legacy website creation and hosting service that was originally launched by Google in 2008. It was designed to allow anyone, even non-technical users, to easily build basic websites.

With Classic Sites, users could choose from a selection of themes and layouts to create pages that have text, images, videos, gadgets like calendars, and more. It used a simple WYSIWYG editor to add and style content without needing to write any code.

The service was targeted at personal users who wanted someplace simple to host a personal site or blog, as well as businesses and teams that wanted an internal website or intranet for document sharing and collaboration. It integrated with other Google services like search, analytics, ads, and maps.

In 2016, Google launched the new and improved Google Sites to replace Classic Sites. All existing Classic Sites were automatically migrated over, retaining most of their content. Going forward though, Google stopped supporting or adding new features to the old version.
