What is Dorico?

Dorico is a relatively new professional music notation software, first released in 2016 by Steinberg. It offers comprehensive tools for writing, editing, formatting and publishing music notation for composers and orchestrators working across many genres. Dorico enables musicians to input notes using a range of methods including MIDI keyboard, electronic drum pads, piano roll editor and computer keyboard. It supports standard music notation elements like dynamics, articulations, slurs, playing techniques, tuplets, octave lines and more. Its intelligent design and automatic formatting reduces laborious tasks like labeling notes, collisions between notations or layout adjustments.

Dorico's note input options, customizable interface and wealth of features for engraving, playback, transcription and publishing make the creative process fluid and more productive. It aims to be intuitive and flexible, adapting to diverse needs of composers, orchestrators, arrangers, copyists and publishers, from beginners to professionals. One of its standout capabilities is working with multiple players and staves within the same project, ideal for anything from wind ensemble to large orchestral scores.
