Fretsi is an open-source digital audio workstation and MIDI sequencer for Windows, MacOS and Linux. It allows users to record, edit and mix audio and MIDI. Fretsi is designed to be powerful while remaining lightweight and easy to use.

What is Fretsi?

Fretsi is an open-source digital audio workstation (DAW) and MIDI sequencer software application for Windows, macOS and Linux operating systems. Developed by a community of musicians and programmers, Fretsi aims to provide a free alternative to premium DAWs like Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, while maintaining professional-grade features and workflow.

As a DAW, Fretsi enables users to record, edit, mix and master audio tracks with effects plugins. It supports VST and AU plugins, multitrack editing, automation, surround sound, tempo matching and other standard DAW features expected by audio engineers and music producers. As a MIDI sequencer, Fretsi allows composing and editing MIDI data for virtual instruments.

The Fretsi user interface is designed to balance power and ease-of-use. While offering tons of advanced features, it remains straightforward enough for beginners to learn. tabs and docks can be customized to set up the optimal workspace layout. Keyboard shortcuts help to speed up workflow once familiar.

Since Fretsi is open source software, the community of voluntary developers actively maintain and add new features. Users can also suggest improvements or customize the code. Platform support is strong across Windows, macOS and multiple Linux distributions like Ubuntu.
