What is GarageSale?

GarageSale is an open-source, self-hosted web application focused on managing classifieds ads and yard/garage sales. Developed by Aptivate, it is designed to be easy to use for both sellers listing their items for sale, and buyers browsing listings.

For sellers, GarageSale provides an intuitive interface to create listings with titles, descriptions, locations, multiple photos, pricing etc. Listings can be organized into categories and sellers can manage interactions with interested buyers via the site's messaging platform. Organizers can also coordinate group yard sales, with centralized listings from multiple sellers.

For buyers, GarageSale offers an responsive browseable interface to search and filter listings by category, location or keyword. Listing photos, locations and descriptions help assess items before contacting the sellers via messaging. Buyers can subscribe to listings to get notified of updates.

From a technology standpoint, GarageSale is written in Python/Django framework. Its code is openly available on GitHub. Key features include user management, listings management, categories, locations/mapping, photos, messaging and notifications. As an open source project, it can be downloaded and deployed on one's own server. Active development and maintenance makes it a good classifieds/yard sale site option.
