What is GeForce NOW?
GeForce NOW is a cloud gaming service developed and offered by Nvidia. It allows users to stream video games on devices like PCs, Macs, Android phones and tablets, and even some smart TVs, without needing high-end dedicated gaming hardware.
With GeForce NOW, the actual game runs on Nvidia's servers that contain powerful GPUs. The video and audio is then streamed over the internet to the user's device. This allows playing very graphically intensive games on devices that normally wouldn't be able to run them natively.
Some key things to know about GeForce NOW:
- Requires an internet connection of at least 15Mbps for 720p 60fps gaming and 25Mbps for 1080p 60fps gaming
- Supported games have to be purchased separately from stores like Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect, etc and linked to your GeForce NOW account
- Has a free membership tier with 1 hour session limit per session. Paid memberships offer 6 hour sessions and priority access to servers
- Library includes popular AAA titles as well as a variety of indie games across different genres
- Saves are stored in the cloud so you can pick up where you left off between different devices
- Supported on Windows PCs, macOS devices, Android mobile devices, some smart TVs, and even Chromebooks
Overall, GeForce NOW removes the hardware barrier for high-end gaming and could appeal to casual gamers or those with older hardware. The streaming technology works very well assuming you have a sufficiently fast internet connection.
