Play as a team of hedgehogs in this open source artillery, action and comedy game with turn-based strategy gameplay.
Hedgewars is an open source turn-based strategy, artillery, action and comedy video game where players control a team of hedgehogs and battle other teams by taking turns to fire a variety of weaponry.
The gameplay mechanics are reminiscent of the Worms series. Each player controls a team of several hedgehogs. During each turn, each player may move their hedgehogs around the terrain and utilize various methods of attacking the opposing teams. These attacks can include using grenades, bazookas, cluster bombs, aerial strikes and more to attempt to eliminate the enemy hedgehogs.
There is a wide selection of different terrains, including lunar landscapes, islands and forests. Each terrain provides different tactical advantages and challenges for movement and aiming weaponry. Teams can hide behind terrain or burrow underground to avoid attacks.
Hedgewars features single player campaigns against computer controlled opponents, as well as multiplayer modes for up to 8 players locally or online. There are many customizable options allowing players to modify gameplay rules and parameters.
Hedgewars uses the QT framework. It runs on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and Android operating systems. The source code is available under the GPL license.
