Scorched3D: Open Source Artillery Tank Game

Open source artillery tank game inspired by classic DOS games, featuring missiles, napalm, nukes, and dynamic 3D landscapes for a challenging multiplayer experience.

What is Scorched3D?

Scorched3D is an open source, cross-platform artillery tank video game inspired by the classic 1991 DOS game Scorched Earth. It is designed to provide an updated, 3D interpretation of the gameplay from the original 2D artillery game.

In Scorched3D, between 2 to 8 players take turns selecting weapons like missiles, napalm, bounce shots, and nukes, then altering variables like weapon power and angle to shoot at opponents' tanks across dynamic landscapes and attempt to destroy them. The 3D game world allows for more realism than the original flat maps, with adjustable terrain and lighting, deformable craters from explosions, weather effects like wind and rain, and destructible buildings.

There is a wide selection of bizarre tanks to unlock and choose from as well, which have varying stats for armor, speed, and more. Players earn money to buy new weapons and better tanks by destroying opponents. The random, fully destructible terrain encourages creative strategies and trick shots to take out evasive tanks hidden behind hills and structures.

Scorched3D also supports extensive modding and adding user created tanks, levels, and weapons. It can be played solo against AI bots or with multiplayer locally in hot seat mode or online. The gameplay maintains the addictive turn-based action from the first Scorched Earth but adds modern 3D graphics and physics to provide a fresh new way to experience the classic artillery duel concept.
