What is HTMLOS?

HTMLOS is an open-source web-based operating system built entirely using web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Unlike traditional operating systems like Windows or Mac OS, HTMLOS runs entirely in the browser, providing a desktop-like user interface and application platform.

Some key features of HTMLOS include:

• Desktop-like graphical user interface with windows, icon dock, system tray, start menu, etc.
• Ability to install and run lightweight web apps like text editor, media player, calculator, etc.
• File system based on IndexedDB for reading/writing files
• Keyboard shortcuts for ease of use and efficiency
• Custom themes/skins for personalization
• Offline mode using Service Workers for internet disconnection
• Multi-window multitasking by running apps in separate browser windows/tabs
• Available as a Progressive Web App that can be installed on desktop/mobile

As an open platform based completely on open web standards, HTMLOS offers cross-platform compatibility and the ability for developers to build custom apps. The goal of the project is to create a free, open alternative OS for the web era.
