Hungryhouse was an online food delivery service allowing customers to order takeout from local restaurants for delivery or collection, operating in the UK from 2006 to 2018 before being acquired by Just Eat.

What is Hungryhouse?

Hungryhouse was an online food delivery service based in the UK. It was founded in 2006 and allowed customers to order takeout food for delivery or collection from local restaurants that offered takeaway options.

Hungryhouse worked by partnering with local takeaway restaurants and provided an online platform where customers could browse menus, place orders and make payments. Restaurants would then receive the orders and prepare the food for either delivery by Hungryhouse's network of couriers or for customer pickup.

At its peak, Hungryhouse worked with over 10,000 restaurants across the UK and processed over 5 million orders per year. It was eventually acquired by the food delivery giant Just Eat in 2018 for over £200 million after facing increasing competition in the UK's online food delivery sector.

Just Eat subsequently closed and integrated Hungryhouse's operations and brand into its existing business. While Hungryhouse itself no longer operates, its model of enabling local takeaway restaurants to reach more customers online paved the way for the growth of the online food delivery industry in the UK.
