What is Initium?

Initium is an open-source, privacy-focused web browser. Developed as a fork of Chromium, Initium aims to provide an ad-free, tracker-free, and lightweight browsing experience that protects user privacy.

By default, Initium blocks ads, tracking scripts, fingerprinting techniques, and cryptocurrency mining on websites. It also comes configured with other hardening techniques like hyperlink auditing and enhanced cookie controls to prevent cross-site tracking.

Unlike Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers, Initium does not send usage statistics and crash reports back to a central server by default. The developers have stripped out all the telemetry and logging capabilities so that private user behavior isn't exposed.

In the spirit of open source, all of Initium's code is available for scrutiny on GitHub. Contributors can review the codebase to verify the stated privacy goals have been adequately implemented.

Despite the increased privacy protections, Initium retains Chrome's compatibility with extensions and a familiar user interface. The browser is also relatively lightweight compared to Firefox while still blocking unwanted content that would otherwise slow things down.
