May 05, 2026Frustrating and Unreliable
Keka constantly fails to open encrypted RAR archives from colleagues, which is a major workflow blocker. The Finder integration is supposed to be seamless, but the contextual menu often fails to appear when right-clicking files. For a tool that's supposed to simplify file management, it creates more problems than it solves.

May 04, 2026A Must-Have Tool for Any Mac User
Keka has completely replaced The Unarchiver for me because it's just as simple but handles more formats, including creating archives. I use it daily from the Finder contextual menu or by dragging files onto its icon in the dockβit's incredibly intuitive. Being free and open source is the cherry on top, and it's never crashed or failed to open an archive I've thrown at it.

May 03, 2026Effortless Archiving for macOS
Keka has become my go-to tool for handling archives on my Mac. The drag-and-drop functionality is incredibly intuitive, and it handles everything from ZIP to 7Z without a hitch. Integration with Finder's right-click menu makes it seamless for everyday tasks, and being free and open-source is the cherry on top.

May 03, 2026A Mac Essential - Simple, Powerful, and Free
Keka has completely replaced my need for any other archive utility on the Mac. It handles everything from ZIP to RAR and 7Z flawlessly, and the Finder integration is seamless. The drag-and-drop simplicity makes it incredibly fast for everyday tasks, and it being free and open-source is the cherry on top.

May 03, 2026My go-to archive tool for macOS, simple and just works
As someone who frequently shares and receives compressed files, Keka has been a lifesaver. It integrates perfectly into Finder via the contextual menu and menu bar, so I can compress or extract archives with just a couple of clicks, often using drag and drop. It handles all the formats I need, like ZIP, RAR, and 7Z, without any fuss. The fact that it's free and open source is just the cherry on top.

May 02, 2026A solid free option, but with some rough edges
Keka gets the basic job done as a free, native macOS archive tool. Compressing and extracting common formats like ZIP and 7Z from the Finder right-click menu is incredibly convenient and fast. However, its interface feels a bit dated and it sometimes hangs on very large or complex archives, requiring a force quit. For a free tool it's excellent, but I wouldn't call it flawless.

Apr 27, 2026My Go-To Archive Tool on Mac
Keka has been my default file archiver for years. It's incredibly simpleβI just drag files onto its menu bar icon to compress, or onto an archive to extractβand it handles every format I've ever needed (ZIP, RAR, 7Z, you name it). The fact that it's free and open-source is the cherry on top of an already fantastic, no-fuss utility. It just works and stays out of my way.

Apr 27, 2026Solid for Basics, But Has Some Annoying Quirks
Keka gets the job done for compressing and extracting common formats like ZIP and 7Z, and you can't beat the price. However, I find the way it creates a separate window pop-up for every single operation really clunky and disruptive, especially when extracting multiple archives. It's reliable and well-integrated into Finder, but that one persistent UI choice holds it back from being excellent.

Apr 26, 2026Frustratingly inconsistent and poor Finder integration
Keka constantly fails to handle simple tasks like extracting password-protected ZIP files, often freezing or crashing outright. Despite the advertised seamless Finder integration, the contextual menu rarely appears when I need it, forcing me to open the app manually every time. For a tool whose main job is reliability, it's been a constant source of frustration.

Apr 24, 2026Frustratingly unreliable for something so basic
For a tool that's supposed to simplify archiving, Keka has been nothing but a headache. It frequently fails to open password-protected archives that work fine in other apps, and the Finder integration is spotty, with the menu bar icon often disappearing. It's free, so you get what you pay for, but I've wasted more time troubleshooting it than it's worth.
