Lumiya: Open-Source Google Buzz Client

Lumiya is an open-source client for Google's microblogging and social networking service Google Buzz. It allows users to read and write buzzes, view profiles and shared links, manage contacts, and more, similar to the official Google Buzz web interface.

What is Lumiya?

Lumiya is an open-source, third-party client application for Google Buzz, Google's former microblogging and social networking platform. It provided users with capabilities similar to the official Google Buzz web interface, including:

  • Reading and writing short-form "buzzes" of text, links, images, videos, etc.
  • Commenting on and sharing buzzes posted by people you follow
  • Organizing friends and contacts into groups
  • Viewing buzzes in a stream, timeline view, or by group
  • Searching buzzes
  • Viewing user profiles and shared links

Lumiya offered some advantages over the web interface, like offline support and synchronization for mobile access from Android devices. It provided an alternative way to access Google Buzz for power users.

However, as Google discontinued Google Buzz in 2011, Lumiya is now primarily for historical interest. Modern alternatives focus on other social platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, etc. But Lumiya was one of the more fully-featured third-party Google Buzz clients while the service was available.
