What is Second Life?
Second Life is an online virtual world developed and owned by Linden Lab. Launched in 2003, Second Life allows its users, called Residents, to explore a vast virtual world, participate in individual and group activities, create and trade items, and socialize with other Residents from around the world.
When creating an account, Residents can customize their avatars by changing features like hair, body shape, clothing, and accessories. The platform uses Linden Dollars as its in-world currency, which can be exchanged for real world currencies on Linden Lab's LindeX currency exchange or on third party websites.
In Second Life, Residents can purchase or rent virtual land and build structures like homes, businesses, art galleries, parks, and more. The world is made up of user-generated 3D content, with everything designed and created by Residents. Users have access to a library of building tools to aid in world creation.
