What is LunarSight?

LunarSight is a free, open-source software application developed for sky observers to precisely predict and track the various phases of the moon during its monthly cycle around Earth. It runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.

With an intuitive graphical user interface, LunarSight provides detailed astronomical data on the moon such as the lunar phase calendar for any given month, exact new/full moon times, daily moonrise and moonset times adjusted to the user's location, and the percent of the moon's disk illuminated visible at a given date and time.

While simple moon phase calendars can only offer approximations, LunarSight generates precise predictions by incorporating advanced astronomical calculations of the moon's orientation relative to the sun and the location of the observer. This allows for much greater accuracy in determining the exact moon phase visible on a given night.
