MobileMe - iDisk: Cloud Storage and File Hosting Service
Discover MobileMe - iDisk, a cloud storage and file hosting service offered by Apple, allowing users to store files online and access them from any device. Discontinued in 2012.
What is MobileMe - iDisk?
MobileMe - iDisk was a cloud-based storage service offered by Apple as part of its MobileMe subscription service. Launched in 2008, iDisk allowed users to store files online and access them from any Internet-connected desktop computer or mobile device.
With an iDisk account, users got 20GB of online storage space to store documents, photos, videos, and other files. It worked similarly to other cloud storage services like Dropbox or Google Drive, enabling users to access files from multiple devices and share them securely.
Some key features of iDisk included:
- File syncing - files uploaded to iDisk would sync across all registered computers and devices
- File sharing - share files publicly or with specific MobileMe members
- Online access - access files through a web browser without anything installed
- iPhone app - upload files directly from an iPhone
Overall, iDisk offered easy cloud storage and file access at a time when these types of services were still relatively new. However, MobileMe and iDisk were discontinued by Apple in 2012 as the company shifted its cloud services strategy towards iCloud.
