What is Net Meeting?

Net Meeting is an older video conferencing and collaboration software application developed by Microsoft. It was first released in 1996 as part of the Microsoft Office suite of productivity applications.

Some key features of Net Meeting include:

• Video conferencing - Users can conduct meetings over the Internet with live audio and video.
• Screen sharing - Share your screen with other participants so you can collaborate on documents/applications in real time.
• Chat - Built-in chat allows you to communicate via instant messages during a meeting.
• Whiteboard - The whiteboard feature lets you draw, share diagrams and annotate documents together.
• Remote program control - Take control of a program running on someone else's machine for troubleshooting.

At its peak popularity in the late 1990s/early 2000s, Net Meeting was a pioneer in bringing video conferencing technology to the masses. However, it eventually declined in usage in the mid 2000s in favor of more modern solutions like Skype, Zoom, Webex etc.

While Net Meeting is now discontinued, it represented an important early milestone in making features like video chat and screen sharing more accessible to mainstream home/business users at the time.
