Turn-based tactics video game developed by Snapshot Games, featuring a secret organization called the Phoenix Project and an alien invasion by the Pandorans, with competing human factions.
Phoenix Point is a turn-based tactics video game developed by Snapshot Games and published by Epic Games. It was released for Microsoft Windows in December 2019 and is planned for release on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The game is led by Julian Gollop, the original creator of the X-COM series.
In Phoenix Point, an alien species called the Pandorans has emerged after melting polar ice caps and begins attacking human settlements. The Pandorans are a mutable species that adapts to human weapons and technologies. As the leader of the Phoenix Project, a secretive organization founded before the Pandoran invasion, the player must unite warring human factions while finding a way to repel the alien invasion.
Gameplay consists of two layers: the Geoscape layer that handles macro-management of resources, diplomacy and exploration from the perspective of a 3D globe, and tactical turn-based battles. Battles take place on procedurally generated maps using a squad of agents. Combat includes concepts seen in the X-COM series such as action points, cover, destructible terrain and fog of war. The Pandorans have the ability to morph and blend abilities, changing their tactics against the player.
In addition to the alien threat, Phoenix Point incorporates human factions with their own agendas, which the player will need to cooperate or compete with. The game features multiple endings based on the player's choices and success in repelling the invasion.
Phoenix Point aims to build on concepts from the original X-COM games while incorporating new mechanics and procedurally generated elements. With its sci-fi horror setting and tactical depth, it targets fans of the turn-based tactics genre looking for a new challenge.
