What is Rakarrack?

Rakarrack is a free, open-source guitar effects processor and amp simulator originally developed for the Linux operating system. It is now also available for Mac OS X and Windows.

Rakarrack features a simple and easy-to-use graphical user interface, allowing guitarists to easily construct chains of effects modules. It includes over 40 different effects modules covering distortions, filters, dynamics processors, delays, reverbs, modulators, and more. There are modules for emulating famous stompboxes like the Tube Screamer as well as classic amplifier simulations.

The effects modules can be arranged in any order, allowing for an infinite variety of possible effects chains. There is also an integrated tuner and preset management features for saving and loading user-created effects chains. Rakarrack supports JACK for low-latency audio processing and also includes both MIDI and OSC control for effects parameter automation.

Rakarrack is written in C++ and the source code is openly available, allowing third-party developers to add new modules or modify existing code. It runs on Linux, Windows, and macOS platforms, making it widely accessible.
