What is Sochat?

Sochat is an open-source, self-hosted chat platform that allows users to set up their own private chat servers. It is designed to be:

  • Lightweight - Sochat uses very little system resources so it can run efficiently on low-powered hardware like the Raspberry Pi.
  • Customizable - Sochat is designed to be white-labeled. Users can fully customize the look and feel of their chat platform.
  • Easy to Self-Host - With its simple installation process, Sochat makes it easy for non-technical users to host their own dedicated chat servers.

Some key features of Sochat include: support for direct messages, group chats, emoji reactions, link previews, slash commands, user roles/permissions, chat bots, themes, plugins and more. It also includes chat archives, search, and cross-device sync by default.

As an open-source project under the MIT license, Sochat's code is freely available on GitHub allowing developers to extend the platform to fit their needs. Overall, Sochat aims to give users full ownership and control over their communication through an easy-to-use self-hosted chat solution.
