What is Space Grub?

Space Grub is a 2D top-down space shooter combined with resource management mechanics. Players take control of a small space vessel and are let loose in an asteroid field filled with valuable minerals. The goal is to mine asteroids to collect these minerals, while defending your ship against attacking alien ships.

Gameplay consists of flying around the asteroid field, using mining lasers to break apart asteroids and collect their mineral contents. Different asteroids contain different minerals that can be spent as currency to upgrade components of your ship. Upgrades include things like more powerful weapons, expanded cargo capacity, stronger shields and armor, and faster engines.

However, cargo space is limited, so players need to carefully manage their mineral inventory. The value of each mineral type is different, so deciding what to keep and what to eject as space runs low leads to interesting risk vs reward choices.

On top of the resource management aspects, enemy ships will randomly appear and attack the player's mining vessel. Players need to utilize their equipped weapons and maneuverability to defend themselves. Better weapons and defenses can be purchased with collected minerals, but require balancing offense vs utility when upgrading.

With its mix of shooter, economics and risk management gameplay, Space Grub aims to provide a uniquely challenging space adventure.
