What is Unknown Horizons?

Unknown Horizons is a 2D real-time strategy simulation game with an emphasis on economy and city building. It is designed to provide a historically authentic experience of exploration and colonization during the Age of Discovery in the 15th to 18th centuries.

Players start with a single ship loaded with resources and settlers. They can explore procedurally generated maps, finding new lands and native tribes to trade with. As the settlement grows, players must manage production chains to supply food, construction materials, luxury goods and more. Housing, community buildings, fortifications and harbor facilities expand the complexity of the colony.

Key features include:

  • 2D top-down perspective with zoomable isometric graphics
  • In-depth resource and production chains for buildings
  • Procedurally generated maps to explore
  • Native tribes with distinct characteristics that can trade or go to war
  • Single player sandbox mode focused on open-ended strategic gameplay
  • Point-and-click interface for building placement, unit control and global management
  • Moddable game data and graphics for high customizability

With strategic resource management, procedural maps and dynamic diplomatic interactions with native tribes, Unknown Horizons offers the opportunity to rewrite history however you see fit as you grow your colonies into sprawling cities full of history and culture.
