What is View image in Google Images?

View image in Google Images was a browser extension available for Chrome and Firefox that modified the Google Image search results page. It added a 'View Image' button below each thumbnail in the search results that, when clicked, would open the full-size version of that image in a new tab.

This made it easy for users to save or share images they found through Google Image search, without having to first navigate to the hosting website. The native Google Image search removed direct links to view full-size images in 2018 due to copyright concerns. This extension brought back that functionality for convenience and speed.

By taking users directly to the image file URL, the View Image extension facilitated quick access and downloading of images found through Google. Some key benefits included:
