What is YTMND?

YTMND (an initialism for "You're the Man Now, Dog") is a website and online community centered around the creation of minimalist humor websites (known as YTMND "sites") juxtaposing an image (still or short animation) with optional large zooming text and an optional sound file. The name is derived from the original YTMND site, which featured a picture of Sean Connery from the movie Finding Forrester with the text "YOU'RE THE MAN NOW DOG" in large red capital letters, combined with the audio from the scene in Finding Forrester where Connery's character says the famous line.

The site was created in 2001 by Max Goldberg and quickly grew an active community of users submitting their own sites. At the height of its popularity in 2006, YTMND received an average of 20 million views per month. The simplified format allows users to easily create and share humorous meme-style images blending pop culture references with sounds and music. However, there are community guidelines around appropriate content.

While the site's popularity has waned over the years due to competition from social networks and other humor sites, YTMND maintains a core community of prolific site creators. As of 2023, over 200,000 YTMND sites have been created since the site's inception. The site and community played a significant role in popularizing early internet memes and still provides a unique platform for experimental short-form multimedia humor content.
