Blockland: Sandbox Game Creation Tool

Blockland is a sandbox game creation tool developed by Eric Hartman where players can build their own games, maps, and worlds using LEGO-like blocks. It has a block-based editor and supports multiplayer gaming.

What is Blockland?

Blockland is a proprietary voxel-based sandbox video game, developed by Eric Hartman and published by his company, Badass Games. In Blockland, players can build their own maps, games, and worlds using colored LEGO-like blocks. It contains an integrated level editor called Blocktool.

The game was initially released on October 31, 2005 for Microsoft Windows. It focuses on the creativity and social aspects of gameplay rather than achieving specific goals. Multiple gameplay modes exist, including both cooperative and competitive modes. Using the in-built editors, players can create their own custom game modes, maps, and worlds to share online.

Key features include:

  • Voxel-based sandbox platform for creating custom content
  • Advanced block editing tools
  • Multiplayer support and social gameplay elements
  • Custom scripting and programming options
  • Support for player-created mods and add-ons
  • Unique block-shaped avatars allowing creativity

With its emphasis on user-generated content and social play, Blockland has developed an active and creative community since its initial release. While the original game is no longer supported, a sequel called Blockland Steam Edition was released in 2015.
