What is Checkrun?

Checkrun is a free and open-source application designed to verify that students are completing assigned readings or other materials. It allows instructors or course creators to easily create short comprehension quizzes for any reading or video content they assign to students.

Using machine learning and statistics, Checkrun then estimates the likelihood that a student properly completed and understood the content before taking the quiz. It can identify random guessing behaviors versus true comprehension. This allows instructors to ensure students are fully engaging with content, not just skimming or using other shortcuts.

Checkrun provides dashboards and analytics to see class-level and student-level quiz performance. Poor performance may indicate students struggling with materials. Checkrun quizzes can provide formative assessment to intervene and help students succeed.

As an open source tool, Checkrun is customizable to needs and integration preferences. It focuses specifically on verifying student learning, not delivering content or full learning management features. This makes it complimentary to use with other systems like Canvas, Blackboard, or in-person teaching.
