What is Custodes?
Custodes is an open-source file integrity monitoring software used to detect unauthorized changes to files. It works by computing cryptographic hashes of files and storing them in a database as a baseline. At regular intervals, Custodes recalculates the hashes and compares them to the original baseline hashes.
If the hashes differ, Custodes sends an alert that the file has been modified. By monitoring hash values, Custodes can detect any content changes to files, whether caused by unauthorized tampering, accidental edits, malware infections, or system faults.
