What is Exif Untrasher?

Exif Untrasher is a free, open source Windows software application designed to recover lost or corrupted Exif and IPTC metadata in JPEG image files. Exif data provides additional information about an image file such as date/time, camera settings, captions, copyright information etc. while IPTC data includes metadata like keywords, descriptions and credit info.

Sometimes this vital metadata can get stripped or corrupted due to image compression, editing, transferring between devices or improper shutdowns resulting in images with missing information or dates showing as January 1, 1970. Exif Untrasher scans all JPEG images in a given folder and analyzes each file to detect incorrect, invalid or missing Exif and IPTC data segments. It then tries to restore as much metadata as possible from backup segments or neighboring images in the same sequence or folder.

The intuitive interface shows previews of images detected with corrupt metadata alongwith details of specific metadata fields recovered after a scan and repair session. Advanced users can view the detailed log to pinpoint issues for troubleshooting or reporting bugs. Multiple sessions can be saved and loaded for periodically checking backed-up image collections.
