Frostpunk: Society Survival in a Frozen World
Frostpunk is a society survival video game developed by 11 bit studios where players manage the last city on a frozen Earth in an ice age in the 19th century. As ruler, players make difficult decisions that balance hope and despair among citizens while managing resources, technology research, exploration, and more to ensure the survival of the city.
What is Frostpunk?
Frostpunk is a society survival video game set in an alternate 1886, where volcanic winter has rendered the Earth an icy post-apocalyptic wasteland. As the ruler of the last remaining city on Earth, players must manage both its citizens and its infrastructure to ensure the survival of the city's population.
Gameplay involves making difficult decisions that balance hope and despair among citizens, while managing resources, food production, technological research, exploration, refugee intake, and more. The city is centered around a large heat-generating generator, and players must gather resources like coal, wood, steel, and food to keep the generator running while expanding outward from it into the frozen wastes.
Key features of Frostpunk include:
- Complex resource management involving prioritizing heating, food, research, and resource gathering
- Moral decision-making where players set laws and policies that shape society
- Beautiful, frozen steampunk aesthetic brought to life in vivid detail
- Environments and storms that dynamically change based on player actions
- Citizen discontent that must be managed alongside physical needs
- Three different scenario campaigns as well as endlessly replayable sandbox mode
With its innovative blend of city-building strategy and society simulation under an unforgiving pressure cooker of apocalyptic stakes, Frostpunk offers a uniquely immersive and challenging experience of guiding people through a catastrophe.
