You must help them build a colony from the ground up, starting with basic survival needs like food, shelter, power, and defense.

As the colony grows, new threats will emerge - from pirate raiders and hostile tribes to dangerous animals and climate events. You'll need to assign jobs to your colonists, manage resource production chains, research new technologies, and defend your colony with weapons, traps, or walls. The game features famously intelligent AI systems that allow threats and colonies to develop in an organic, randomized way for high replay value.

RimWorld features very flexible difficulty customization, procedural world generation for endless replayability, a focus on individual colonists with unique backstories and traits, rich mod support via Steam Workshop, and striking 2D art. It's commonly praised for its emergent storytelling - the game doesn't force a specific narrative, but rather generates events that combine with the player's decisions and colonists' traits to create unique stories with every playthrough.
