Explore a procedurally generated world, manage your growing settlement, and guide your citizens as they dig mines, farm, build roads, craft tools, and more.
Stonehearth is a strategy and management game developed by Radiant Entertainment where players guide a settlement of settlers as they explore, build, and develop towns and cities in a procedurally generated fantasy world.
As the ruler of the settlement, the player assigns jobs and tasks to individual settlers in order to gather resources, build shelter, develop infrastructure, defend against outside threats, trade with allies, and expand the town. Settlers level up and acquire new skills over time to become specialized workers such as farmers, miners, fighters, builders, cooks, and more.
Gameplay revolves heavily around base and city building mechanics similar to Minecraft, Dwarf Fortress, Rimworld and other games in the sandbox strategy genre. The objective is to grow the initial settlement into a thriving village, town, or city by managing resources, expanding housing and facilities, constructing defenses, researching new technologies, and attracting more inhabitants.
The world is made up of randomly generated biomes with varying climates and terrain types. Settlers can explore surrounding biomes to gather new resources, encounter friends or foes, undertake quests to earn rewards, and spread the player's influence across a region.
Stonehearth features both single player and multiplayer modes. Playing online allows players to trade with, support, and even band together with settlements controlled by other real-world players. The game also features full mod support via the Steam Workshop which expands content and customization options.
The game entered Steam Early Access in 2015 after a successful crowdfunding campaign and remained in active development until 2017 when Radiant ceased operations. While Stonehearth is no longer officially supported, an active modding community continues to create new content and quality-of-life improvements for the existing player base.
