What is Age of Mythology?
Age of Mythology is a real-time strategy video game developed by Ensemble Studios and published by Microsoft Game Studios. It was released on October 30, 2002.
The game is set in the time when legends and mythical creatures roamed the earth. Players choose one of three cultures - Greek, Egyptian, or Norse - to control. The major gods from these cultures, such as Zeus and Ra, play a role in guiding the factions and aiding them with relics, myth units, and god powers.
The single player campaign follows the story of Arkantos, an Atlantean admiral who gets caught up in the wars between the gods. Players gather resources, advance through Ages by building town centers, assemble armies of human soldiers and mythological beasts, and control heroes with unique powers. The ultimate goal is to defeat enemy forces and accomplish objectives specific to each mission.
In online multiplayer and custom games, players can choose their culture and select their own victory conditions. There are nine civilizations to choose from across the three cultures. Each has unique buildings, unit rosters, and advantages that encourage varying gameplay strategies and styles.
Since its initial release, Age of Mythology has remained a popular RTS game with an active player community thanks to its fusion of real-time strategy, role-playing, and mythological elements.
