A turn-based strategy game set in classical antiquity, where players build empires, gather resources, and conquer opponents with detailed historical accuracy.
Empires! is a complex and detailed 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit and eXterminate) turn-based strategy game developed and published by Crazy Monkey Studios. It is set in the classical antiquity era spanning from 3500 BCE to 350 CE and features historically accurate civilizations, technologies, units and buildings from that time period.
As the leader of one of ten civilizations in the game, including Rome, Egypt and Carthage, the player starts with a single city and the goal of growing their fledgling empire across a randomly generated map representing the Mediterranean, North Africa and Middle East. Gameplay revolves around building cities, gathering resources, training military units, exploring the map, developing technologies and waging wars against rival civilizations.
Core mechanics in Empires! include citizen and resource management, research tree progression, complex diplomacy with AI opponents, strategic combat using different unit types like swordsmen, archers and siege weapons, and balancing trade-offs as the player grows their empire. Periodic events also occur like barbarian invasions, famines, plagues and civil wars to provide further challenges.
The game features exquisite historically-accurate pixel art visuals, atmospheric soundtracks evoking ancient civilizations and randomly generated maps each time for endless replay value. As complex a simulation of civilization-building as any game in its 4X genre, Empires! offers over 50 hours of deep strategic gameplay in every campaign.
