Rust is a popular survival multiplayer game developed by Facepunch Studios and originally released in early access in 2013. It is set in a post-apocalyptic open world with no set objectives or goals.
Players start with only a rock and torch and must gather resources like wood, stone, cloth, and metal to craft tools, weapons, clothing, and shelter. Resources are scarce, requiring players to find the right balance between gathering, crafting, and surviving. Threats in the world include hunger, thirst, cold, heat, radiation, hostile animals like bears and wolves, and most dangerously - other players.
A key aspect of Rust is its emphasis on player interaction in the harsh PvP environment. Raiding and stealing from other player shelters is a major part of the gameplay. Players can fight directly, but subterfuge like sneaking and trapping are also options.
With its tense atmosphere and high stakes gameplay, Rust has become hugely popular. Updates over the years since early access have expanded the world and improved graphics, performance, building options, monuments to explore, and more. The game left early access in 2018 but continues to receive regular updates from Facepunch.
