Open world survival video game developed by Bohemia Interactive, set in a post-Soviet Republic where a mysterious plague turns most of the population into deadly zombies.
DayZ is an open world survival video game developed and published by Bohemia Interactive. It originally started out in 2012 as a modification (mod) for the military simulation game ARMA 2. The mod quickly gained huge popularity and Bohemia Interactive later turned it into a standalone game using a customized version of their Real Virtuality game engine.
DayZ is set in the fictional 225 km2 post-Soviet Republic of Chernarus, where a mysterious plague has turned most of the population into deadly infected zombies. As a survivor, the player scavenges the land for supplies, weapons, transportation, and must try their best to survive against not only the infected, but also against other player survivors in this tense player vs player gameplay. The game introduces different mechanics like diseases, injuries, malnutrition among other factors that affect gameplay and make survival difficult.
Players get to explore the vast open world landscape of Chernarus, which features a variety of terrain like forests, small towns, villages, landmarks and the coastline. Since it’s multiplayer and online, players get to interact or fight against other players they encounter in this post-apocalyptic world. There are a variety of weapons players can use for defense like guns, grenades and melee weapons. Vehicles and transportation options like cars, trucks, buses, helicopters and boats allow faster traversal across the large map.
DayZ aims to provide a realistic, tense and challenging simulation of surviving in a post-apocalyptic world devastated by the zombie plague. Its open world sandbox design emergent gameplay provide a one-of-a-kind player experience each time. Despite some technical flaws due to its indie origins, DayZ has received widespread critical acclaim and has sold over 5 million copies since its alpha release in 2013.
