What is Openage?

Openage is an open-source game engine that recreates the gameplay mechanics of the classic real-time strategy game Age of Empires II. Some key features and goals of openage include:

  • Reimplementation of Age of Empires II mechanics like resource gathering, combat, tech trees, etc.
  • Support for modding and adding new content like civilizations, units, buildings, terrain, etc.
  • Flexible scripting system to control game logic and entities
  • Multiplatform support for Linux, macOS, and Windows
  • Completely free and open-source code under the GPLv3 license
  • Singleplayer, multiplayer, and AI scripting capability
