The Lands of Lore series is a beloved classic fantasy role-playing game (RPG) franchise created by Westwood Studios in the 1990s. Set in the vibrant fantasy world of Gladstone, the games immerse players in an epic adventure filled with mystical lands to explore, strange creatures to battle, and a dramatic storyline to unravel.

The first Lands of Lore title was released in 1993 for MS-DOS and Commodore Amiga computers. Players take on the role of a young cadet named Devon who must set forth on a dangerous quest to find a cure for the deadly Rotting Plague that afflicts the king. Along the way, Devon traverses through dark forests, decrepit ruins, and towering mountains while developing his combat abilities and recruiting a colorful cast of companions.

The series continued in 1997 with Lands of Lore 2: Guardians of Destiny, introducing enhanced graphics and more role-playing depth. Players control a son of Devon, tasked with recovering the fragments of a shattered magical mask. This leads him through a vast world of striking locales, from sandy deserts to dank caverns. Intense real-time combat also takes center stage as players master different weapons and combat moves.

The Lands of Lore drew praise for their immersive graphics, rich lore, flexible character progression, and engaging stories that unfolded like playable fantasy novels.
