Lifelog: Digital Journaling App

Lifelog is a digital journaling app that allows users to easily track and log various aspects of their life. It has a streamlined interface for writing journal entries, snapping photos, tracking habits, moods, health data, and more. Lifelog aims to be a one-stop shop for quantifying your life.

What is Lifelog?

Lifelog is a personal analytics application developed by Sony Mobile. It was designed to automatically track aspects of the user's life, including steps taken, photos taken, internet usage, location history, and more. The goal of Lifelog was to help users quantify their lives and gain insights about their daily activities and behaviors.

The app would automatically record images taken on a user's phone and sync sensor data like step counts to build a visual timeline of the user's days. Users could scroll back through this timeline to reminisce and see patterns in their behaviors. The app used data visualization features like interactive charts to reveal trends and statistics about the user's life.

Although Lifelog offered innovative self-tracking capabilities, it struggled to gain mainstream user adoption and faced privacy concerns about the vast amount of personal data it collected. Sony shut down the service in 2018. Similar life logging ideas have persisted through other startups and software tools focused on specialized tracking, albeit with more limited feature sets compared to Lifelog's ambitious vision.
