Listen: Open-Source Music Player with Gesture Control

Listen is an open-source music player app for Windows, macOS and Linux that allows users to control music playback through custom gestures and motions using a webcam. It has a minimalist interface focused on gesture control.

What is Listen: The Gesture Music Player?

Listen is an open-source, cross-platform music player application developed by MIT students that enables gesture control of music playback. It uses computer vision algorithms to detect and track user hand movements from a webcam feed, and maps various gestures such as swiping left/right, pinching, or waving to media controls for play/pause, track switching, volume adjustment, etc.

Unlike traditional music players that require mouse and keyboard input, Listen provides a novel and intuitive way to interact with your music library just using your hands and motions. It has a clean, uncluttered UI with large album artwork and responsive visual feedback for gesture detection. The app can pull songs automatically from iTunes or Windows Media Player libraries, supports common formats like MP3, AAC, FLAC, etc. and lets you create custom playlists.

Being open-source software written in C++/Qt, Listen is available freely for Windows, macOS and Linux operating systems. It is lightweight on system resource usage with real-time visual effects. The gesture mapping and recognition can be customized as per user preferences. Overall, Listen lets you take effortless control of your music using natural gestures.
