What is Lugaru?

Lugaru is an independent video game developed by Wolfire Games and first released in 2005. It is an open-source 3D action and adventure game featuring anthropomorphic animal characters in a fantasy setting.

In Lugaru, the player controls Turner, a warrior rabbit who is highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat. The gameplay consists of fighting enemies across a series of hostile environments using punches, kicks, jumps, and other abilities. Turner can also use weapons and objects in the environment to defeat foes.

The game takes place in the land of Lugaru where Turner must fight to liberate rabbit villages from oppressive regimes of other animal species. The levels and worlds have an open design that emphasizes exploration and allows the player to complete objectives in different ways.

Lugaru was praised for its unique premise and gameplay, detailed graphics and environments, and challenging combat system. It was later released on digital distribution platforms like Steam and GOG.com. The game's source code was also made available for modification and learning purposes.

Wolfire Games released a sequel called Overgrowth in 2017 which expanded on Lugaru's game engine and mechanics with new environments, characters, and abilities.
