Microsoft Money: Personal Finance Management Software

A personal finance management software discontinued in 2009, helping users organize finances, track spending, create budgets, manage investments, and pay bills online.

What is Microsoft Money?

Microsoft Money was a personal finance management software developed by Microsoft. It was first launched in 1991 as a basic checkbook program and grew over the years to include many features to help consumers organize their finances.

Key features of Microsoft Money included:

  • Tracking income, expenses, investments, assets, and liabilities
  • Online banking and bill pay
  • Graphing spending trends and creating budgets
  • Managing portfolios and investments
  • Generating financial reports

Microsoft Money aimed to be an all-in-one solution for home finance. It competed with Intuit's Quicken software for many years. However, with the growth of free online banking and other newer fintech apps, Microsoft discontinued Money in 2009 after 18 years on the market.

While it no longer exists today, Microsoft Money pioneered user-friendly personal finance software and showed the potential for managing money digitally.
