Monitive: Self-Hosted Open-Source Alternative

Monitor infrastructure and applications with metrics, tracing, and logs - a lightweight, customizable, self-hosted solution replacing Datadog

What is Monitive?

Monitive is an open-source monitoring and observability platform for infrastructure and applications. It provides metrics, tracing, and logs to monitor the health and performance of systems.

As an alternative to Datadog, Monitive has some key advantages:

  • Self-hosted - You host and manage Monitive yourself, avoiding SaaS subscription fees and lock-in.
  • Customizable - Monitive is open-source, allowing you to customize and extend it as needed for your environment.
  • Lightweight - It has a small resource footprint compared to Datadog, making it suitable for smaller organizations.
  • Affordable - Being self-hosted and open-source, Monitive is very cost effective compared to commercial options.

It comes with built-in support for monitoring popular infrastructure like Kubernetes, Docker, MySQL, Redis and more. You can collect metrics, traces and logs from hosts, containers, services and applications. It has a Grafana-based dashboard for visualizing all this data.

The main downsides are that you take on the operational work of managing it yourself. It also has a smaller community than solutions like Datadog. But as an open-source alternative, it provides great value at lower cost.
