What is MoveOn.Org?

MoveOn.org is a progressive public policy advocacy group and political action committee that campaigns for socially liberal and progressive causes in the United States. It was launched in 1998 in response to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton by the U.S. House of Representatives.

Originally formed to encourage lawmakers to "move on" past the Clinton impeachment proceedings, the group has gone on to support a variety of left-leaning causes. This includes advocating for diplomacy over military action, countering the influence of money in politics, fighting for economic fairness, protecting the environment and civil rights, and more.

MoveOn is known for innovative use of media and technology to organize people and deliver political impact. It pioneered online advocacy efforts through email activism, online petitions, fundraising, and grassroots organizing. The organization helps to coordinate people powered campaigns that bridge online and offline action.

While nonpartisan at its inception, MoveOn has increasingly aligned itself with progressive, liberal and Democratic Party affiliated politicians and policies. It focuses its efforts on issues important to its 8 million members, who fund and lead much of MoveOn's work.
